Rambling About Rivers Ep 3: Swimming in rivers… are you mad?”

Emily Cooper

16/01/20

Swimming in rivers isn't for everyone - especially over winter. Would you swim in a river every day in December...in the UK?

That's just what the wonderful Ella Foote has done. In this podcast, we join Jayne Mann (Marketing and Communications Manager at The Rivers Trust) and Dan Turner (Senior Project Officer at Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust) as they talk to Ella, who works as a Contributing Editor at Outdoor Swimmer Magazine.

During December, Ella completed her "Dip a Day" challenge in which she swam in a different river every day, asking the question "Are our rivers as bad as headlines suggest?". During this time, Ella carried out some fantastic fundraising for The Rivers Trust; so far, her fundraiser has generated over £1,200! There's still time to donate, though, so don't hesitate to show your support on her JustGiving page.

In this episode of Rambling About Rivers, Ella talks about her experience as a wild swimmer. She offers advice to anyone thinking of swimming in rivers, as well as recounting some of her favourite swims. We also talk about the challenges faced by those looking to enjoy rivers, and explore what we can do to solve them.
