Voluntary Trustees – Welland Rivers Trust
As a Trustee of the Welland Rivers Trust Ltd (WRT) you can have a strategic influence in the future of nature conservation projects on your doorstep.
The WRT is an ambitious and well-connected charity with a proven track record of project development and delivery. We work with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders across the natural catchment of the River Welland from its source to the sea, especially through the Welland Valley Partnership (WVP). Our main purpose is to protect and improve the freshwater environment in and around the River Welland and its tributaries, from its source in Northamptonshire to The Wash, reconnecting local people with its beauty and benefits.
The Trust has been in existence for over 10 years and is financially sound. Its current and previous Trustees have brought expertise in environmental conservation but as the Trust grows, we want to bring wider perspectives and expertise to the voluntary board of Trustees.
We are looking now for candidates that live within the catchment, are committed to environmental conservation and restoration and with experience in any of the following fields:
- running a small business / organisation
- accountancy or book-keeping
- diversity and community engagement
- organisational planning
Practical experience in freshwater ecology and conservation is not necessary as this is already present amongst the existing Trustees, but is of course very welcome.
Our friendly board meets 5-6 times per year (currently by Zoom), with Trustees providing additional support to the staff team to suit their interests, expertise, and other time commitments. The Welland Valley Partnership meets quarterly.
The success and planned future growth of the Welland Rivers Trust depends on its small, but active and dedicated board of Trustees. You would work closely with the Chair and employed members of staff to ensure strong governance, guide the expansion of the Trust, fund and design the physical habitat restoration projects and engage local communities with our work.
