This additional modelling is being commissioned by the modelling working group of the Wyre Investment Readiness project to improve the understanding of 3 key processes in the catchment above Churchtown with respect to flood risk. The aim is to build confidence within the investor community that the delivery of NFM is being targeted according to the best available evidence and understanding

The aim: This additional modelling is being commissioned by the modelling working group of the Wyre Investment Readiness project to improve the understanding of 3 key processes in the catchment above Churchtown with respect to flood risk.  The aim is to build confidence within the investor community that the delivery of NFM is being targeted according to the best available evidence and understanding.

The key questions to be answered through the project are:

Abbeystead Reservoir:

  • How does Abbeystead Reservoir influence the magnitude and routing of flood flows down the Wyre?

NFM:

  • Could the operation of the Garstang flood basin be explored to investigate whether it could be enhanced by the implementation of NFM features in the catchment upstream? and
  • Would the implementation of NFM features in the Calder tributary catchment also reduce flood risk in Churchtown and St Michaels?

The work is co-financed by the Natural Coarse project Phase 3.
