NFM Monitoring: How to estimate storage, roughness and losses

This webinar will show the calculations that should be used to estimate storage, roughness or losses to input into the AGOL NFM tool

About this Event

Defra require all of the projects funded by the £15M NFM fund to fill in the “Monitoring and Evaluation Tool” (also refereed to as the AGOL NFM tool). The database that is created by the tool will provide a record of every NFM asset that has been built along with an estimate of its flood risk benefits.

This online meetup is an opportunity for those who are using the tool to learn about how to estimate storage, roughness and losses and ask the Defra & Environment Agency team about the reporting process to make sure that they are collecting the right information and that the results will help promote and target effective NFM delivery in the future.

Sign up to learn about:

  • How to estimate the storage associated with each NFM feature. A series of simple calculations will be demonstrated.
  • How to estimate the roughness associated with each NFM feature. Areas of increased roughness will slow the flow.
  • How to estimate the losses associated with each NFM feature. Losses can either be to groundwater due to increase permeability or to the atmosphere due to increased evapotranspiration.
  • Ask the CaBA technical team any questions about the methods demonstrated.
  • Ask the Defra and Environment Agency representatives about the reporting requirements to make sure that every project leader understands what is required by the end of the project.

Got a question or issue that you need help with? Let us know at info@catchmentbasedapproach.org. You will be sent joining details in the morning on the 30th of March
