Senior Land Management Officer

The Severn Rivers Trust are looking for a highly motivated individual to join us as a full-time Senior Land Management Officer, helping us to deliver a range of exciting landscape-scale initiatives throughout our Severn Uplands catchment. The role will focus primarily on the day-to-day management of our ambitious Welsh Government funded Cain Valley Sustainable Land and Water Management, and Nant Alan Sustainable Land Management and Climate Resilience Projects. These projects, which run from March 2021 to June 2023, are led by a steering group of landowners and community representatives supported by Severn Rivers Trust. The project aims are to improve in-river habitat for fish and other wildlife, to protect rivers from damage from livestock, to encourage natural flood management by increasing woodland cover and restoring a network of hedgerows and to install farm ponds and wetlands by supporting a network of local contractors. A Community Officer is currently working part-time on these projects to deliver education and volunteering days which inspire local people to learn more about their rivers and take action to protect them. The projects will engage a combined total 1,300 stakeholders through engagement activities. This Community Officer will be your direct report as part of this role.

You will be an integral part of our operations team, with experience in the procurement of goods and services, including the management of contractors, ensuring the delivery of on farm works to a high standard. You will build strong relationships with the partnership team and wider networks to work for a common goal. You will manage your workload effectively to prioritize tasks and activities with a demanding schedule and keep excellent records and evidence in line with Severn Rivers Trust’s and funders’ requirements.

This post will be based from the home address of the appointed employee, with an expectation of occasional travel to the Trust’s offices in Welshpool and/or Martley. The post holder will be expected to undertake regular site visits to meet landowners, contractors, staff and volunteers. Therefore, a full, current UK driving licence and daily access to a vehicle covered by business insurance is essential for this role. To reduce travel time and carbon footprint we would prefer candidates to live within the project area. The post will travel regularly to sites around the Severn Uplands catchment. Mileage costs will be reimbursed.
