Senior Fisheries Officer

The Severn Rivers Trust are expanding the team and looking for a highly skilled Senior Fisheries Officer to join the River Restoration department taking the lead on fisheries management and habitat restoration. You will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and have a genuine passion for fisheries and freshwater ecology. The role will be an integral part of the core team at Severn Rivers Trust providing technical expertise and support in all things fisheries across the Severn catchment from source to sea.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, progressive and action-led organisation at the forefront of delivery improving the long-term resilience of the river to develop thriving fish stocks for biodiversity and fisheries. You will manage a portfolio of fisheries projects overseeing the capital delivery of fish easement work and in-channel habitat restoration. You will build strong relationships with external partners and wider networks to facilitate the delivery of shared objectives. You will manage your workload effectively to prioritise tasks and activities with a demanding schedule and keep excellent records and evidence in line with Severn Rivers Trust’s and funders’ requirements. You will also have a good knowledge of scientific research methods, river wildlife, and nature conservation issues, and will be able to communicate these in an easily accessible way for a range of different audiences.

The postholder will be expected to work from home with an expectation of occasional travel to the Trust’s offices in Welshpool and/or Martley. The post holder will also be expected to undertake regular site visits across the Severn catchment to meet landowners, contractors, staff and volunteers. Therefore, a full, current UK driving licence and daily access to a vehicle covered by business insurance is essential for this role. To reduce travel time and carbon footprint we would prefer candidates to live within the catchment area. Mileage costs will be reimbursed.

Salary: £26,240 – £34,987 per annum (9% employer pension contribution)
