Many things may have major impacts on fish stocks but are difficult to influence or change, for example, climatic factors, agricultural policy, predators, fish farming. We can concentrate first on these areas where it is easier for us to make changes: Reducing
exploitation This amounts to putting our own house in order. Then, based on the best possible information available, we have a much better chance of persuading others to adopt policies which will benefit river catchments. |
