Way Forward

Many things may have major impacts on fish stocks but are difficult to influence or change, for example, – climatic factors, agricultural policy, predators, fish farming. We can concentrate first on these areas where it is easier for us to make changes:

Reducing exploitation
Stocking sensibly where appropriate
Improving and increasing habitat

This amounts to putting our own house in order. Then, based on the best possible information available, we have a much better chance of persuading others to adopt policies which will benefit river catchments.
