LAND MANAGEMENT. Many organizations are working hard to promote changes to land use and agricultural practice.

SEPA in Scotland and the Environment Agency in England monitor and give advice regarding any potential causes of pollution (e.g. silage/sheep dips). Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group encourages farm management plans which are more environmentally sensitive.

The Wildlife Trusts are becoming actively involved in Partnerships to restore wetlands.

The Westcountry Rivers Trust produced 400 farm management plans for the Tamar catchment which has significantly improved the riverine environment.

Providing water for sheep and cattle excluded from the river can be difficult and expensive. The Westcountry Rivers Trust have developed this environmentally friendly pump for this purpose

Other Trusts such as the Tweed Foundation, Eden Rivers Trust and the Wye Foundation are raising funds and providing help and expertise to persuade farmers to fence off river banks and treat them in a more environmentally sensitive way.
