Director, Tyne Rivers Trust
Salary: by negotiation according to experience and skills: initially on Rivers Trust Grade 5-6 (in the range £40k – 50k)
Permanent full-time position: 37.5 hours per week
Tyne Rivers Trust (and its consultancy company, River Catchment Services) are facing an optimistic future, following an HLF ‘resilience review’ and the adoption of innovative financial management and governance systems. The review has refocused the Trust, narrowing but expanding its activities in river habitat improvement and stakeholder engagement. With the help of our Board and our consultants, and with the return in an interim capacity of Professor Malcolm Newson as the current CEO, TRT is now ambitious to progress its 2015-2020 Business Plan (available on request – see below).
The Tyne has remaining challenges under the Water Framework Directive, not the least historic metals pollution, ‘aggravated’ erosion and deprived urban community watercourses crying out for engagement and action. The Tyne fishery, notably salmonids, is recovering spectacularly and habitat improvement remains our major role. The current ‘My Tyne’ project will develop a citizen science approach to the Government’s affirmed Catchment-based Approach.
The new Director will motivate and manage a team of seven capable, qualified enthusiasts, experienced in the two major component issues: evidence-based technical catchment management and community-led action and engagement. We have a flourishing and highly-qualified team of 200 volunteers. We have catchment-scale GIS and modelling capacity and a 14-year reputation with government agencies and charitable trust funders. We have sustainable financial reserves and an income generated by consultancy; generating income remains a priority. Our new Director will need both river science and management skills.
Deadline for applications: 12 noon, Thursday May 31st.
Please send a letter of application, c.v. and two referee contact details to Malcolm Newson: email@example.com.
